Fountain Valley homes with multiple pets deal with a specific problem: hair works its way past the register grille and wraps around the damper blades. In this house, two golden retrievers had contributed enough hair to reduce airflow in three bedrooms. This Lake Forest duct had not been touched since the house was built in 2001, and the before photo shows a plug of dust and hair restricting the opening by more than half. The fan ran constantly during showers and the mirror still fogged. We cleaned the duct run, pulled the fan housing, and cleared the grille, then confirmed the airflow with a simple tissue test at the register. The after photo shows a clear path through the duct, and the homeowner told us the mirror finally cleared during the next morning’s shower.

This Corona del Mar condo had been through a kitchen remodel before the owners moved in, and nobody had cleaned the ducts after the drywall work.
